There is a challenging aspect about the entertainment industry. That is the fact that not only do you have to have skill, and be talented above the rest, but you also must hold an immense amount of luck.

Luck is uncertain, and unmeasurable, you can never know when you’ll finally get your “big break” or when you do finally take off, whether or not it will actually stick.

The worst part is working day in and day out, with absolutely zero return. Simply grasping onto hope that it will work out soon enough.

To keep yourself in check, there is something that comedian and actor Will Ferrell explained in an interview.

He was recalling the time when he told his father that he wanted to pursue comedy, and his dad gave him some of the best advice that helps take a ton of the pressure off.

“If it was only about talent I wouldn’t worry about you, but just know there’s so much luck involved that if you feel like you’re not getting anywhere, it’s ok to quit.”

Will Ferrell described this as an anti-pep talk which ultimately changed his perspective from trying to make this work to simply just having as much fun as he could.

And by proxy that mindset is what Ferrell believes to have subsequently opened many doors in his journey. People saw his attitude that he was enjoying rather than just working to prove himself to be “picked.”

This is the type of energy that people feed off of.

So rather than putting pressure on to be the best, allow yourself to enjoy your time and have a blast doing it.
