Become a craftsman.
And I don’t mean building, like woodworking or welding and other trades similar to it. If that’s what you want to do then go for it.
But when you walk into a room, when you appear at an event, don’t just see what’s already set up and prepared as the only opportunities available. See through the system that is built, navigate where you can meet people that not only can help you, but you can help them.
Sometimes you can gain more by building a relationship with the people on the ground, than trying to break into a production that is already built.
Don’t jump through their hoops. Find holes, and seek opportunities in unlikely ways.
Maybe the startup company needs help with their marketing, you could offer your services (if they apply) without the expectation that they will say yes. Build a relationship, it may lead to something greater down the road.
The person you’re standing next to might seem like someone normal, or just another attendee. But they could be the exact person that you need to meet.
Don’t expect anything, simply be curious with where you can apply your skills.
It’s not always the people on the stage that you should befriend, oftentimes the person in the audience is the exact person you should meet.
